The purpose of the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Swimming and Water Safety program.  The course will develop your understanding of how to use course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress. 

With successful completion of the course you will be able to teach Parent/Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics and the Learn to Swim program.  The course length is made up of 10 classes, 3 hours each.  Class will be held sometime in April-May. Dates TBA.


Prerequisites:  Must be at least age 16 by the last class, and pass a swim test at the first class consisting of the following:  front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly; float on back and tread water.  Attendance is mandatory at all 10 classes.  Being a lifeguard is not required to teach swim lessons.

Certification requirements:  Must complete online session, pass the swim test, attend and participate in all course sessions, complete practice teaching assignments and pass final written exam.  Once successfully completed student will be certified as a Water Safety Instructor.  See letter to WSI candidates below.
